How to Make
If using the printable PDF, cut and trace the template to cut out 20 yellow petals, 1 brown cardstock flower base, 3 brown rectangles from lightweight cardstock or heavy paper and 2 green cardstock leaves.
If using a cutting machine, change the blue line on the rectangular brown strip to a scoreline. Attach the score line and the vertical cut lines to the main rectangle piece. Next, duplicate this piece twice so that you have 3 of this piece in total. Change the green line on the yellow circle to the pen tool. Attach this line to it’s circle. Cut the rectangles from lightweight brown cardstock or heavy paper.
Add vertical scorelines to each petal using the end of a paintbrush or ball point tool.

Apply orange pastel dust to the petals of the flower using a wedged sponge or cotton bud. I used pan pastels, but alternatively you can rub an orange pastel on a sheet of paper to create a pile of orange dust.

Apply glue to the outer edge of the base circle.

Apply the first layer of petals to the outside edge of the base circle.

Apply more glue and the arrange a second layer of petals on the sunflower base.

Take your rectangular strips and fold them in half lengthways.

Cut two thirds of the way into the rectangle across the folded edge, leaving small gaps between each cut.

Begin folding the strip of card in on itself, continuing to roll until you reach the end of the strip.

Apply a dab of glue to the end of the strip to hold the roll in place.

Add a dab of glue to the start of your second strip, and attach it to where the last strip ended.

Continue to roll and add strips until you are happy with the size of your sunflower face.

Apply glue to the sunflower head base and attach the rolled up brown strip. Leave the glue to dry.

Glue the sunflower head to the top of the straw.

Draw your sunflower’s facial expressions using scrap card and markers. Cut and apply to the face of your sunflower. I drew glasses and a smiling mouth but you can create any expression you would like.

Make fold lines in the center of the green leaves using the edge of a ruler or scraper tool.

Glue the leaves to the back of the straw stem.

Place the bottom of the straw into the ball of clay and place into the base of the plant pot.

Your sunflower is complete!
