Spring has finally sprung and this Birds Nest Kids Craft definitely fits the bill as a fun spring activity to complete as a classroom activity or at home project.
This craft uses a combination of techniques and materials to create an image of a bird and her nest of eggs, with a straw and paint to print the nest, patterned scrapbook paper to jazz up the wing, and some colourful feathers to make our bird fancy. Use any combination of colours and patterns to make your birds as bold or as plain as you’d like.

How to Make
If using the PDF printable, print and cut the templates and use to trace onto your cardstock. I used pale yellow, ivory and pale blue for the eggs, patterned scrapbook paper for the wing and pale purple and pale blue for the body.
If using the SVG file, upload the file to your cutting machine software and cut the pieces from your chosen colours of cardstock.
Cut your straw, leaving one piece slightly longer than half and the other slightly shorter. Apply some brown, gold or green paint to the long edge of the straw with a paint brush or paint stick and press down onto the sheet of paper or card.

Repeat in a crisscross pattern, alternating colours, until you have formed a birds nest.
Glue the birds eggs into the nest. You can spatter paint the eggs or leave plain.

Draw on your bird’s eye and beak.

Tape 2 or 3 feathers to the back of the birds head.

Pinch the other 3 or 4 feathers in your fingers and wrap tape around the base of them to hold them together.

Glue the head and wing onto the birds body and attach your bunch of feathers to the tail using tape.

Glue your finished bird onto your picture so that it is positioned slightly above the eggs. Your birds nest art is now complete!
